BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE’s Chris Miller Comments on Possible Use of AI in Animated Threequel

As artificial intelligence is now a tool used by many film studios, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Executive producer Christopher Miller is committed to keeping him out of the world of wall crawlers.

Sony Pictures boss Tony Vinciquerrara recently revealed the studio’s plans to increase the use of AI in films and TV shows. He thinks this will help them produce those of “more effective means” but ultimately it’s just a way to save money.

Last year, DreamWorks founder Jeffrey Katzenberg suggested that AI had the potential to reduce the costs of making an animated film by up to 90%, with only 50 artists needed to create it at the time. instead of 500. While this is an exciting prospect for studio bosses, it worries moviegoers.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is currently undated due to the time it took to create the web-slinger’s groundbreaking films. Now, producer/writer Christopher Miller has promised fans that AI will not be used on his watch.

“There is no generative AI in Beyond the Spider-Verse and there never will be,” he said (via Toonado.com). “One of the main goals of the films is to create new visual styles that have never been seen in a CG studio film, not to steal the generic plagiarized average from other artists’ work.”

It’s clear that if studios like Sony intend to increase the use of AI, they will lose many filmmakers who create truly great stories for the screen.

Last years Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse grossed just under $700 million at the worldwide box office and was a critical success. Its predecessor, that of 2018 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewon the Oscar for “Best Animated Film”.

“What I can tell you about Beyond the Spider-Verse is that it will be better than Into and Across the Spider-Verse, and I will be there. That’s all I can tell you. “ Miles Morales actor Shameik Moore has previously spoken out about the trio. “The second movie brings us to the third movie.”

“Action… you can expect Miles and Gwen. You can expect anything (laughs), you can expect the sequel to the second one.” » Moore teased. “You can expect to see The Spot; you can expect action-packed energy and dilemmas and problems to solve.”

As indicated, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse still has no confirmed release date. Hopefully an announcement will be made soon.
