Beyoncé Collaborator Reyna Roberts Deserves Cowell’s Praise
The “America’s Got Talent” gang is back.
During Tuesday’s premiere, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Sofía Vergara and host Terry Crews returned to the show’s home base, the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles, to see what kind of new talents – or lack thereof – they would discover 19 seasons in the competition. to show.
The two-hour episode on NBC featured 11 auditions, two golden buzzers, a pair of two-pointed shoes, several apparently rearranged fingers and one of the scariest contortionists you’ve ever seen.
Sure, there were a few hiccups involving way too many toilet plungers and a dog that wanted to be anywhere but on the “AGT” stage. But for every grimace from a judge, there was also talent and heart from some featured performers.
The illusion that talent is being created here may be shattered when one realizes that some of the contestants already had a head start in their respective careers (spoiler: one of the singers can be heard on the “Cowboy Carter” record ” by Beyoncé.), but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a national stage. This is all in the name of entertainment.

Here are highlights from the season 19 premiere of “AGT.”
NBC fall schedule:‘Happy’s Place,’ ‘Brilliant Minds’ by Reba McEntire and more
Reyna Roberts, who sang on Beyoncé’s “Blackbiird,” performs an original song
Many “AGT” viewers may not recognize Reyna Roberts by sight, but might be familiar with her sound.
That’s because she was one of several black country artists Beyoncé recruited for the tracks “Blackbiird” and “Tyrant” on “Cowboy Carter.” (Although they don’t highlight this major achievement in the series.)
Wearing a matching red leather ensemble with thigh-high boots and her signature long red hair, Reyna rocked the stage with the confident attitude of, say, Lady A or Carrie Underwood as she effortlessly hit the high notes.
Mandel was the group’s only naysayer – “It didn’t hook me,” he said – with the judges ultimately giving the country artist three yeses.
“I’m so thrilled, beyond thrilled, that you actually came on the show,” Cowell said.
Ballerina Performs ‘One of the Toughest Acts’ ‘AGT’ Has Seen
Ashlee Montague proved to a very skeptical Cowell that ballet could make good television.
Described in her Instagram bio as a Guinness World Record holder, “extreme ballerina” and Cirque du Soleil alum, Ashlee began her performance with what in itself would be an impressive routine. But she outdid herself by climbing onto a platform at least a dozen feet in the air to perform a stunt that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
While on pointe in her ballet flats, Ashlee miraculously maintained her balance as she tiptoed over the small lips of 10 glass bottles.
Cowell, who had earlier declared under his breath that “nobody really likes ballet,” was eating his words.
Ashlee’s four weeks of non-stop rehearsals paid off and she made it through props – an accomplishment that left her in tears and the judges eager to give her their yes.
“You found a way to make it interesting,” Cowell said of Ashlee’s extreme version of the ballet, adding that her performance was “one of the most difficult numbers we’ve seen in a long, long time “.
Who won the Golden Buzzer?
Learn more Jonasi, a Zimbabwean comedian living in the United States who learned English by watching stand-up specials, received a standing ovation for his act. He emphasized the differences between the rural village he came from and the American culture he experienced, arguing to Cowell that he was “one of the funniest people we’ve had.”
According to its website, Learnmore was featured in Steve Harvey’s Spotlight competition and has a booking agent and manager. He may not be entirely an unknown talent, but he certainly won over the judges – and the audience –. He had the honor of receiving the Golden Buzzer from one of his heroes, Terry Crews.
Klum awarded the Golden Buzzer to Richard Goodall, in the final audition of the evening, for his perfect rendition of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The 55-year-old primary school caretaker, who has been in the job for 23 years, was nervous when he went on stage wearing a newsboy cap and rectangular glasses.
To top it all off, this trip to Los Angeles was her first time on a plane.
Richard, who went viral in 2022 for his Journey performance at his students’ graduation and received praise from Steve Perry and the iconic band, may not have ended up on “The Voice,” according to a TikTok that he posted almost two years ago.
But he now has bragging rights as Cowell’s “hero.”
