As a dietitian who tries to stick to the Mediterranean diet, I found essential airport snacks that make travel days a little more bearable.
These are not my everyday dishes, so they do not correspond to the Mediterranean diet to a T – especially since this food style tends to avoid processed foods. However, I think they are better suited than the omnipresent bags of croustilles and cookies.
Most airports, especially those in the United States, tend to store similar products in convenience-style places like Hudson News. If you cannot find the exact brand or product that I recommend, I am quite confident that there will be something similar.
Without further ado, here are my favorite airport snacks.
When I find a farmer’s refrigerator, I receive the pasta in Pesto.
Lauren Manaker
Farmer’s Fridge, an automatic refrigeration distributor that sells fresh food options, extended to nearly 20 American airports (alongside other locations) over the past decade. If I need something substantial, this is the first thing I will look for.
I like meals to be fresh and ready to eat. My favorite is the bowl of pesto pasta, which is made with Mediterranean ingredients par excellence, such as vegetables and olive oil.
It’s generous enough to be a light meal when I miss a traditional lunch or a dinner
Cojack nuts are an excellent snacking nuts.
Lauren Manaker
I still reach nuts when I travel because they are a basic food of the Mediterranean diet and a good source of plant proteins.
The cashew nuts are my favorites – I find them incredibly satisfactory.
The Sahale Pomegranate-Vanilla snacks, in particular, have changed the situation for me. The rich and hazelnut flavor goes well with the pie pieces of grenade apple and the flavored Madagascar vanilla.
They are my indulgent snack which keeps me fed and happy while I am in motion.
Olipop is my soda of choice.
Lauren Manaker
Olipop, a prebiotic soda with vegetable fibers, offers a refreshing and more intestinal alternative to traditional carbonated drinks.
I love the way it satisfies my thirst for soft drink without a ton of added sugar, which is not a large part of the Mediterranean diet. A can keep me under tension and balanced without crash during the long days of travel.
If you can’t find olipop, other brands like Pop culture and Poppi make similar drinks.
Popcorn is a staple food.
Lauren Manaker
Popcorn is a whole grain – one of the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet – and I find that it is a very satisfactory snack. In addition, it is a good source of fiber, which can help support digestion.
The Himalayan gold popcorn of less evil is without dairy products and made with coconut oil in butter and sea salt from the Himalayas. This is the brand I live in airports when I want something crunchy.
I love to nibble on olives.
Lauren Manaker
Olives are a delicious and practical way to incorporate healthy fats in my day. Their rich and brackish flavor is both satisfactory and refreshing, making it an excellent choice for a quick bite on the go.
I particularly like it when I can find unique service packs because they facilitate portions management and keep fresh.
I found pearl olives to go to my airport and others, and I specifically like how the container is pre-drained. I don’t necessarily want to play with olive juice on an plane.
The chocolate quinoa chips satisfy my sweet tooth.
Lauren Manaker
Quinoa Undercover chips are one of my favorite treats when I am at the airport. I love the use by the brand of simple ingredients that help satisfy my sweet tooth without too much sugar.
The snack consists of crisp quinoa covered with rich chocolate and other aromas. It provides a satisfactory crunch and a dose of whole grains, protein and fiber.
If Undercover is not available at your airport, search for other clusters, bars or chips based on quinoa.
Snaps snaps The snacks of cooked peas are a sneaky way to embark on the vegetables on the go.
Lauren Manaker
I have often hung a bag of crop shots, especially when I travel with my 9 year old daughter. It is one of those snacks that works well for both of us.
They are made from green pea and offer a little bit of fiber and protein, which keeps us full and powered during long journeys.
Since they are cooked instead of fries, they feel like a lighter option compared to ordinary tokens.
Even if you cannot find this brand, you will probably meet other alternatives of fleas based on fruits or vegetables. Simply browse the list of ingredients to make sure there are not too many additives.
