The Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders will face off in the divisional round of the 2024-25 NFL Playoffs in what should be a high-scoring affair. Here are three Lions-based bets to consider, with odds provided by the folks at FanDuel Sports Bettingthat we love about this match.
In the three games David Montgomery missed due to injury, Jahmyr Gibbs averaged 25.7 touches, 162.3 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns per game. And even though Gibbs will once again share backfield responsibilities with Montgomery, that shouldn’t hurt expectations too much for the second-year returner.
The Commanders’ run defense is arguably the worst part of their team, and on average they allow 135.4 rushing yards per game (27th in the NFL), 4.7 yards per attempt (28th), have allowed 64 runs of more than 10 yards (28th), and 2.08 yards rushing before contact (30th).
Even with Montgomery returning, there’s plenty of meat on the bone for everyone. I expect Gibbs to gain yards in chunks, both on the ground and in the passing game, so take the combo and take over.
Although Williams is known for his explosive skills, predicting when he will make a big catch can be difficult. For example, his betting line on receiving yards is 56.5 (-113), but over the last seven games he’s only exceeded that total four times.
However, one trend we have seen with Williams lately is the volume in which he is targeted and the number of receptions he receives. Over the Lions’ last seven games, Williams has been targeted at least seven times and caught at least five times. receptions in six of them.
I like to take receptions OVER 3.5 here, but if you want better odds you might also consider: Williams Alternative Receptions 5+ at odds of +158.
Although LaPorta didn’t find the end zone in the Lions’ last game against the Vikings, he scored a touchdown in the previous two games, against the 49ers and the Bears (he also scored two touchdowns against the Bears in of their first meeting). What these two teams have in common is that their defenses deploy a single-height formation on more than half of their snaps.
Enter Washington, which deploys single safety sets on 55% of its defensive snaps, ranks 26th against tight end in DVOA and has allowed eight touchdowns to tight ends this season (T-5th at most).
