Best Buy beats Amazon for PS5 deals ahead of Prime Day

Amazon may be gearing up for its official Prime Day sale, but Best Buy has just launched a whole host of counter-deals. There are a whole host of savings available in the yellow-branded retailer’s “Black Friday in July” event, but the retailer beats Amazon pretty consistently in the PS5 gaming department.

I see a number of games significantly cheaper at Best Buy than on Amazon this afternoon, from the zombie hacker Dead Island 2 to the more subtle Metal Gear. With so many of these games up to only $19.99 There’s some great value on the shelves – and while Amazon might match those prices in its official Prime Day PS5 deals tomorrow, there’s little reason to wait.

I don’t expect these games to sell for less than $19.99. I’ve been monitoring Prime Day game deals for years now, and even cheaper titles like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection rarely drop below that spot. Instead, I see them as early access to some of the PS5 deals we might see tomorrow, and they’re worth diving into before midnight.

Should you wait for Prime Day?

Of course, we don’t know exactly how tomorrow’s official Prime Day deals will play out. I will say, though, that I haven’t seen these games drop below these prices yet — and I’d be very surprised if I did. At most, we could see Dead Island 2 drop to $17.99 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor drop to $24.99. They could also not be included in this year’s deals at all (though that’s more likely to be the case for a game like Sackboy: A Big Adventure , which doesn’t get price drops too often).

This is a safe bet ahead of Prime Day – they’ll likely only be found at the same prices on Amazon tomorrow – just with a lot more competition going against them.
