Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson joins Tee Higgins with trade request before 2024 NFL Draft

Another Bengals star wants out of Cincinnati.

Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson has requested an out-of-town trade, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

The request comes more than a month after star wide receiver Tee Higgins requested a trade from the Bengals in early March.

Hendrickson is under contract through the 2025 season and is set to make $15 million in 2024, but the Pro Bowler wants a longer-term deal than Cincinnati has been willing to offer.

The Athletic reported that the Bengals had “no interest in dealing him and had no plans to do so,” which is a similar feeling they had after Higgins wanted out.

Hendrickson recorded a career-high 17.5 sacks last season and 43 tackles for the Bengals.

In his three years with the Bengals, Hendrickson had 39.5 sacks.

Higgins had been impacted by the Bengals franchise and has already said he plans to play for Cincinnati this upcoming season.

At the time, Schefter reported that “Higgins loves Cincinnati and hoped to stay with the team long-term, but he is disappointed that the team has not had discussions about a long-term contract extension since March 2023 . He is ready to move on to another position. new house.”

While it seems unlikely, if the Bengals were to deal Hendrickson before June 1, it would result in $7.8 million in dead money while saving $12.3 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap.

A deal after June 1 would result in a $5.2 million cash loss and save the team $15 million.

The Bengals missed the playoffs for the first time after making it the previous two seasons, which included a trip to the Super Bowl in 2021, with a 9-8 record in the AFC North.
