David Benavidez confronts David Morrell on Saturday, during the main event of a boxing card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (PBC PPV on Prime Video, 6 p.m. He).
Benavidez (29-0, 24 kos) is the active title holder of WBC heavy goods vehicles, while Morrell (11-0, 9 KB) enters the fight as “regular” champion of WBA light heavyweights. Artur Beterbiev is the undisputed champion at 175 pounds.
Benavidez is lobbying for a fight against the champion of medium super-point Canelo Alvarez for years, but after many tests, Benavidez has gained weight. During his first light heavyweight fight, he beat Oleksandr Gvozdyk by unanimous decision.
“I am delighted to really present my skills in this fight,” said Benavidez during an open training in Las Vegas in early January. “I had a lot of injuries and adversity in the fight (Gvozdyk), but I went against one of the best in the world and I showed that I had a lot of heart.
“The way I fight, I always try to remove my opponents. It does not mean that you always understand, but we will certainly grow for it. David Morrell made him personal for me.”
After a successful amateur career, Morrell became a professional in August 2019. After marked nine KO in his first 10 fights, Morrell traveled the distance against Radivoje Kalajdzic on the Crawford Terence against Israil Madrimov Undercard in August. Morrell is looking for the seventh consecutive defense of his WBA belt.
“Benavidez is considered one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing, so when I beat it, everyone will see what I am capable of,” Morrell told a training session in Stafford, at the Texas, in January. “People call him” the Mexican monster “, but I’m not afraid of monsters – I hunt them. He never faced someone like me, and he’s beating me, he’s going to realize That I am faster, stronger and smarter than anyone with whom he ever intervened in the ring.
