The winner of Kentucky Derby, Sovereignty, added a second stage of the triple Crown by winning the Belmont Stakes 2025 in the same way as the derby on Saturday.
In what looked like a carbon copy of the first stage of the triple crown five weeks ago, sovereignty exceeded privileged journalism in the section to win the Belmont at the Saratoga Race Race in the North of New York State. Baeza, who joined the third in the derby, also rallied for the third at Belmont.
Three days after winning the derby last month, the owners and the sovereignty coach decided to jump the second stage of the triple crown, the preakness issues, in order to prepare for Belmont even if the horse had no physical problems preventing him from running to Baltimore. The decision was largely mocked. Saturday’s victory validated this decision, according to coach Bill Mott.
“It turned out to be good,” Mott told Fox Tom Rinaldi immediately after the race. “If we haven’t won today, we would have made a lot of criticism.”
Sovereignty broke at ease and found itself near the pace established by Rodriguez. Journalism tracked up the pace, while Baeza, who broke, was near the rear of the peloton. While the horses turned to the house, journalism passed the tiring Rodriguez, but sovereignty is looming, setting up the revenge match that had been planned for weeks. But as in the derby, sovereignty exceeded its rival.
The victory of sovereignty raises the following question: if he had been run in the challenges of Preakness, would he now be the 14th winner of Triple Crown of all time? This is a question you can never answer.
