Bella Hadid wore a sheer dress made from tights in Cannes

Even though she’s taking a step back from her modeling duties, Bella Hadid wasn’t going to let this year’s Cannes Film Festival go by without a major fashion moment. After wearing lungs of gold in 2021, Hadid proved to be one of the biggest players at the event — and she just proved she didn’t miss a beat.

Today, at the premiere of The apprentice, she wore a completely sheer dress from Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent Fall 2024 collection. Like so many other pieces that walked the runway, her dress was completely sheer and made with sheer, stretchy tights. She finished the look with Saint Laurent’s La Scandale wedge and wore her hair in a deep, Old Hollywood side part with perfectly polished waves.

The dress featured a backless neckline and sheer bodice, but the fine fabric was gathered, tied and tucked along the model’s midsection before transitioning into a mid-length pencil skirt that featured visible seams and a hemline thick.

Speaking about the collection in February, when critics questioned exactly how a garment made from a notoriously delicate hosiery fabric would perform in the real world, Vaccarrello insisted that the runway presentations were about fantasy and not of reality.

“So much fashion, so many things that just look the same. I wanted to come up with something that had never been done before that would excite me,” he said. “My job isn’t always about doing something real or realistic.”

Of course, what ends up in Saint Laurent boutiques may not be exactly like what Hadid wore. So, like the parade, his one-of-a-kind Cannes creation was simply meant to inspire, not mere mortals.

“Don’t even ask me about the production, I can’t tell you,” Vaccarrelo finished.

Earlier this weekend, Hadid strolled the streets of Cannes in a less see-through but equally seductive minidress. The espresso-colored number had a structured, corset-inspired bodice, and she finished it off with a camel-colored Prada handbag, proving that she likes to dress easy, airy, and monochrome when enjoying the sun in the South of France.
