Behind the scenes at Kate Middleton, Prince William’s 13th wedding anniversary celebrations

Prince William and Kate Middleton are celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary with an intimate celebration at home, The Post can reveal.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were married in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011 and acknowledged their special day in a social media post.

“13 years ago today”, their manager social media account captioned a never-before-seen image from the couple’s wedding day.

And when it comes to celebrations, the two are celebrating their anniversary “in a very private and low-key way,” according to Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell.

“William is not a show person,” Burrell revealed. “He is a very private man and the celebrations take place behind closed doors. It’s personal for him and he and Kate are forging their future together in private.

The royal expert noted that the prince, 41, was preparing to prepare a special meal for his leading lady in the kitchen.

“They don’t have a full-time cook, they borrow staff from the king whenever they have dinners or anything formal,” Burrell explained.

“In private, they will fend for themselves,” he adds. “William is quite capable of preparing a nice candlelit meal for him and Kate.”

When it comes to gifts, the duo has an annual “family tradition” that they follow every year: William gives the princess a piece of jewelry made especially for her.

Burrell notes that William likes to treat Kate, 42, “like his wife, not a princess.”

“Her father and grandfather fell into this tradition, they both had jewelry made for their wives for a special occasion,” Burrell reveals.

“They have parties outside of their birthday. They take some private time for the two of them, they will just have a nice romantic candlelit dinner for themselves.

“They make a special effort to achieve this because their lives are very public. They cherish private moments,” he added.

It’s safe to say the couple’s low-key celebration is going to be special, considering the difficult start to the year Middleton faced following her abdominal surgery and subsequent cancer diagnosis.

The Post has contacted Kensington Palace for comment.

The couple had been dating for eight years before their engagement and first met during their respective stays at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 2001.

But news of their engagement didn’t become public until November 16, 2010, when Kate released the diamond sparkler that once belonged to William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
