The Chicago Bears are welcoming former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy to Halas Hall for an in-person interview, according to multiple league sources. The team flew McCarthy on a private plane, as first reported by ESPN.
McCarthy is the organization’s second known in-person interview. Former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera returned to Halas Hall, where he was the Bears’ defensive coordinator from 2004-06, for his interview this weekend.
The Bears are not known throughout the league as a team that would use a private plane for a head coach interview, which makes it noteworthy. McCarthy was scheduled to land at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling Wednesday afternoon.
McCarthy officially became a free agent this week and has interest from both the Bears and the New Orleans Saints – McCarthy was the Saints’ offensive coordinator from 2000 to 2004. A Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy spent the last five seasons as head coach of the Cowboys. They had the #1 offense in football in 2021 and 2023.
