Xavi has confirmed Barcelona’s interest in signing Robert Lewandowski this summer, with the club in ‘negotiations’ over a possible transfer for the Polish star.
The Bayern Munich goalscoring machine is one of the most prolific strikers in world football at the moment, having scored an incredible 50 goals in all competitions this season.
At 33, Lewandowski shows no signs of slowing down and is keen to take on a new challenge after eight years with the German giants.
With a year remaining on his contract, a transfer for the Poland international could be difficult to complete but, according to Xavi, he has had assurances from the powers that be at Barcelona that they will go from strength to strength this summer.
Asked about Lewandowski, the head coach said on Saturday: “He is one of the options, one of the possibilities.
“There are negotiations, he has one year left on his contract… it won’t be easy.
“Laporta told me that we can strengthen the team, there is confidence.”

The midfielder has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou this summer with Manchester United alongside those who would be keen.
Reports even suggest that a deal to reunite with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford is close.
While admitting he is a fan of the Dutch midfielder, Xavi admitted that finances could play a role in the player’s future.
He said, “For me, it [Frenkie] is a beast of a gamer and I told him so.
“He has the quality to mark an era here. I like him a lot, he’s such a capable player who can dominate games the way we play.
“But we will see what the financial situation of the club is. Again, we’re talking about money, which I don’t want to do, but that’s the way it is.
