The legend of British cycling Barry Hoban died at the age of 85.
Hoban won eight different stages during the emblematic event of the Tour de France throughout an illustrious career which included 19 years as a professional.
Once the news of his death, several tributes fell on social networks.
Photographer Graham Watson said: “ The sad news that Barry Hoban died, he was a real legend of the days of glory of yesteryear, and a hero of so many pros. ‘.
“He was the first British cyclist that I photographed during a Tour de France in 1977, and I am extremely happy to have this one image of man in action. RIP.’
The estimated cycling commentator, Jez Cox, wrote: “ What a sad day but also what an important day to celebrate what a massive impact Barry Hoban had.

Hoban was the most successful Tour de France Rider in Great Britain, because he won eight stages between 1967 and 1975, until the emergence of Cavendish.
He is also the only British rider to win the Gent-Wevelgem event, which has taken place since 1934.
Hoban, who spent a large part of his career as a rider for Hutchinson -Mercier, held the record for most of the tours completed by a British rider at 11 – until he was broken by Geraint Thomas last season.
Hoban is survived by his wife Helen, his daughter Daniella and the daughters-in-law Jane and Joanne Simpson.
