Barron Trump declines Florida GOP delegate position due to ‘prior commitments’

He is expected to graduate from high school next week.

Former President Donald Trump’s youngest child, Barron Trump, is declining the opportunity to serve as the Florida Republican Party’s at-large delegate to the Republican National Convention because of “prior commitments,” the former president’s office confirmed first lady Melania Trump at ABC News.

“While Barron is honored to have been selected as a delegate by the Republican Party of Florida, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” Melania Trump’s office wrote in a statement to ABC News.

The Florida Republican Party announced earlier this week that the former president’s son had been chosen as one of the state’s delegates, alongside other members of the Trump family who have taken a more active role in the Trump campaign, including Trump’s eldest sons, Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, and Trump’s youngest daughter, Tiffany Trump.

During an interview with a local Philadelphia radio station, Donald Trump said Barron loved politics and suggested he even offered him political advice.

“He likes politics. It’s kind of funny. He tells me sometimes, ‘Dad, this is what you have to do,'” the former president said of Barron, saying his son is smart and n doesn’t need a lot of politics. advice from him.

Speaking to Telemundo 51 in Miami, Donald Trump said it was “very sweet” that his son was entering Florida politics, and offered his full support while emphasizing that he was still “very young” .

“To me, it’s very cute because he’s a very young man,” Trump told Telemundo 51. “And he’s graduating from high school this year. He’s a very good student, very smart and I think it’s great.”

“I completely agree,” Trump continued, emphasizing once again that his son is very young.

The Daily Mail was the first to report that Barron Trump was declining the role.
