In her letter, Chiocchetti cited the recent PEN trial, in which she was found guilty of embezzlement of funds from Parliament and prevented herself from presenting himself to the French presidency, as a reason to block the candidacy of Paradol.
“Recent trials before French national courts presented the risks linked to the use of funds allocated by the European Parliament in cases where parliamentary assistants also carry out a secondary activity for a political party,” said Chiocchetti.
“Given your responsibilities as a party president, Mr. Paradol’s missions as chief of staff require a certain degree of availability and responsiveness.
“The accumulation of responsibilities, under your only supervision, makes it impossible … Impossible to ensure that, while working for you as a deputy, Mr. Paradol will not be called for tasks linked to the presidency of (National Rally).”
Le Pen and 23 other accused were found guilty last month of more than 4 million euros in parliament funds. They were accused of having used this money to pay people who were nominal assistants MEP but who in fact worked mainly on parties of the parties.
Le Pen has received an immediate five -year ban from standing in the elections – a penalty that could prevent it from running for the next presidential elections. The figurehead figure appealed to the decision and continues to maintain its innocence. Bardella has since appeared as the most likely candidate of the largest far right party in France for the 2027 presidential bulletin.
