Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Will Add Dynamic Split-Screen, New Evil Endings, Dark Urge Fixes, and More Kissing

The word “kiss” appears 10 times in the latest blog post for Baldur’s Gate 3’s seventh major patch, while the word “bug” appears 14 times. I think that ratio illustrates how BG3’s updates as a whole manage to strike a balance between addressing things like progression blockers and satisfying the fanbase’s endless excitement. Patch 7 isn’t all about bug-busting and kissing, though. Coming in September, it introduces dynamic split-screen functionality, Honor Mode expansions, modding tools, new endings for Evil games, and a slew of changes to Origin characters.

Let’s start with split-screen. Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 will introduce dynamic split-screen merging when co-op players are in close proximity, “because the power of friendship transcends all barriers, including screen dividers.” You can enable this feature directly from the HUD or in the RPG’s settings, both in and out of combat. To add to the intimacy, the patch allows for banter between characters assigned to different people in multiplayer, rather than being limited to characters controlled by a single player.

As for Honor Mode, Patch 7 is giving out legendary actions (i.e., unique, mode-exclusive actions that become available under the right circumstances) to more creatures, “including the bulette, everyone’s favorite surgeon Malus Thorm, and the githyanki Ch’r’ai Tska’an, Ch’r’ai Har’rak, and Ptaris.” Ever the champion of the people, Larian has also given local hobgoblin Dror Ragzlin an Arachnid Compulsion ability that lets him unleash a group of pit spiders on you.

As for the modding toolkit, it lets you play with: items like weapons and armor; cosmetics like hair and textures; races, classes, and subclasses, including variants of existing classes and their abilities; the user interface, and, most appetizingly of all, the dice you’ll roll during those nail-biting skill tests. You can read more in this official FAQ . Larian is working with specific mod authors to test the tools ahead of the patch’s launch in September. The Steam blog has details on what they’ve been up to so far, as well as a small landslide of notes on very specific fixes for Origin characters. Did you know, or care too much, that Karlach used to brush the shaved part of his head during his idle animation at camp? Did it really annoy you? Well, that won’t be the case after September.

The new campaign endings finally apply to Origin characters like Dark Urge and custom creations. “Each new cutscene is to be discovered through nefarious means,” the blog gloats. The evil endings come with various improvements and bug fixes for Dark Urge players in particular. For example, they removed the one where the rest of your party would watch on indifferently when you killed a random companion. Oh, “and Minthara will now react accordingly if you’ve been stripped of Bhaal’s influence.”

That’s not all: the Dark Urgers may be unhappy to learn that you still can’t kiss Gortash. It’s been long enough since BG3 went to version 1.0 that I can’t remember who Gortash is without consulting a wiki, but I’m not surprised to hear that some players want to kiss him. Come on, show me a character from Baldur’s Gate 3 that someone doesn’t want to kiss. I’ll be back tomorrow and you can bet I’ll Google your answers, unless they horrify me, in which case let’s forget it ever happened.
