Bafta 2025 nominations: Conclave and Emilia Pérez lead the Bafta nominations but Daniel Craig is absent

Perhaps the most interesting and exciting thing about this year’s awards season is its unpredictability. There is currently no consensus on what will ultimately win Best Picture at the Academy Awards on March 2.

There are six films that are supposed to have a possible path to victory: Conclave, Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Emilia Pérez and Wicked.

But while the Oscars have 10 Best Picture nominees, Bafta only has five spots available for Best Picture, leading experts to wonder which of the above would be missing.

Despite its popularity in other categories and its huge box office success, the response was Wicked. It will almost certainly be nominated for an Oscar, but its absence in the best film category at the Baftas suggests its chances of winning the Oscar are lower than previously thought.

In the meantime, Conclave getting the most nominations is a particular sign of strength for this film, although one of the reasons it was able to get one more nod than Emilia Pérez is because it was eligible in the category for best British film.

Emilie Pérez having the second most nominations is also a sign of support, but two of the musical’s nominations are in the same category, and this has been more controversial with audiences.

Both films could easily be surpassed by The Brutalist Or Anorawhich had a strong showing at the Baftas and was hugely popular with critics and audiences.

A complete stranger is perhaps slightly behind, after James Mangold missed out on the Bafta best director category.
