Bad weather causes power outages

Several residents are without power as severe weather moves through the Omaha metro area. At the peak of outages reported Tuesday morning, the Omaha Public Power District reported more than 13,400 total outages as of 7:40 a.m. By 12:20 p.m., that number dropped to about 2,900. More than 2,700 Outages were still being repaired in Douglas County. Sarpy County reported 21 outages, while Saunders County dealt with 22 outages. As of 1:50 p.m., 5,839 people were without power in several counties. In a report on its blog , OPPD said crews are working to restore power to the remaining customers affected by the outages. They did not indicate expected recovery times. As of 12:20 p.m., that number had dropped to 92. This outage map can be viewed here. OPPD reminded the public to be careful of storm debris and floodwaters. They urged people to use caution in removing downed tree branches or branches touching power lines. Anyone encountering downed power lines should avoid them and treat them like live wires. Report them by calling 911.
