In the midst of its coalition negotiations, the CDU / CSU lost six percentage points.
The head of the Institute of New Social Responses (INSA) Hermann Binkert calls this “loss of support that has never been seen before in the period between the Bundestag elections and the formation of a government”.
According to the survey Sunday led by INSA Opinion Research Institute for the Bild Newspaper, 24% of the voters interviewed would vote for the CDU / CSU and 24% for AFD.
For AFD, this represents an increase in a percentage point compared to the last survey, marking its best result to date. On the other hand, the CDU / CSU, led by the next probable federal chancellor Friedrich Merz, has lost two percentage points.
The CDU and the CSU won victory in the Bundestag elections on February 23 with 28.5% of the second votes, while AFD finished second with 20.8%.
Compared to the elections, the CDU / CSU lost 4.5 points.
The SPD, which should be a coalition partner in the near future, remains unchanged at 16% in the new INSA survey. Consequently, the SPD would not have a majority in parliament in itself.
The Greens are 11% (-1), just like the left part (+1). All other parties continue not to fall from the five%threshold.
In total, 1,206 people participated in the survey between March 31 and April 4. According to INSA, the maximum statistical error margin is 2.9 percentage points.
Meanwhile, according to the German News website T-onlineThe Bundestag session scheduled for next week has been canceled at the request of the CDU / CSU and the SPD. A decision against which the predictable opposition parties have left, the Greens and the AFD protest.
AFD interprets this decision as an expression of fear, suggesting that the union is concerned about being overshadowed by the right -wing party. According to Bernd Baumann, parliamentary secretary of the AFD parliamentary group, AFD plans to immediately present “all the requirements that the CDU / CSU has promised during the electoral campaign” in the Bundestag, as he explained in a video on the platform of new X.
The Greens criticize this as “a suspended game, especially in these times”, while the left part calls this an affront. They argue that there are enough important subjects – such as Trump’s customs policy – which require a dialogue: “During coalition negotiations, there should be political silence, and the opposition should not disturb – it is absurdity”.
The new Bundestag met for his first session on March 25. Before that, the former Bundestag had approved a significant debt for infrastructure and defense with the majority of two thirds required. In addition to the CDU / CSU and the SPD, the Greens also voted in favor of the special fund.
In the new Bundestag, these parties would not have had the majority necessary to adopt such a resolution.
