Baby Reindeer Creator Asks Fans to Stop Identifying Characters

Content warning: This story discusses sexual abuse.

Richard Gadd curbs speculation about his Baby reindeer characters.

The comedian, who based the Netflix show on his personal experiences with stalking and sexual assault, made a public appeal for his fans to stop trying to identify his attackers.

“Hey everyone,” Gadd wrote on his Instagram Story on April 22, according to a screenshot taken by Today. “The people I love, have worked with and admire (including Sean Foley) allow themselves to be unfairly drawn into speculation. Please don’t speculate on who the real people might be. »

He added: “That’s not what our show is about.”

Baby reindeer focuses on a struggling comedian who becomes the obsession of a stalker after an act of kindness. Since its premiere on April 11, Internet sleuths have attempted to uncover the true identities of characters, including stalker Martha (played by Jessica Gunning) and Darrien, the television screenwriter who prepares the character of Gadd (played by Tom Goodman Hill).
