The pharmaceutical company Avkare has published a voluntary reminder on several of its over -the -counter products for dry and irritated eyes, citing regulatory “differences” identified during an audit by the Food and Drug Administration.
“User’s health danger is unknown,” said Avkare in a statement on his website. “Gaps can lead to unacceptable quality products, and it is not possible to exclude the risks of patients resulting from the use of these products”.
These deviations could be packaging problems to the problems that occurred during manufacturing. Avkare did not specify what problems had been identified.

The five recalled products include lubricating eye drops and eye gels, which consumers should immediately stop using, warned Avkare. The affected items were sent on May 26, 2023 to April 21, 2025.
The products are:
- NDC # 50268-043-15 Ophthalmic solution of artificial tears
- NDC # 50268-066-15 carboxymethylcellulose sodium ophthalmic gel 1%
- NDC # 50268-068-15 CARBOXYMETHYLCELLULOSE SODIUM OPHTALMIC SOLUTION
- NDC # 50268-126-15 solution of drops for lubricating eyes
- NDC # 50268-678-15 Polyvinyl alcohol ophthalmic solution
Neither Avkare nor the FDA responded to requests for NPR comments.
Avkare said that customers are eligible for a full refund on their products concerned, including the cost of shipping returns.
Over -the -counter eye treatments have made the headlines in recent years after a series of contamination problems concerned dozens of brands. Some of the products affected in past reminders included drops for the eyes of national brands like CVS Health, Target and Rite Aid.
