First responders began searching for survivors, but were hampered by heavy rain and gusty winds. Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows police tents set up near the crash site.

It is not known how many passengers were on board at the time of the accident or whether there were any fatalities.

A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to KTLA that witnesses reported hearing “an engine screech then an impact” at the time of the crash and that “a flash of red light” been seen in the area.

“Our airship was unable to fly due to weather conditions,” the spokesperson said. “A search will be carried out (Sunday) morning and further details will be released as they become available.”
