Australian Treasurer Chalmers says he is ‘within reach’ of a budget surplus

Australian Treasurer Chalmers notes via Reuters:

• Second consecutive budget surplus within reach

• Now is not the time for scorched earth austerity
• Now is not the time to slash the budget
• We will chart a responsible middle path on the budget

If he builds us up this way, it will probably be a surplus. At the margin, this takes some pressure off the RBA.
