Rafael Nadal will have the opportunity to edge out Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the Grand Slams won after reaching the Australian Open final with a four-set victory over Italy’s Matteo Berrettini.

Sixth-seeded Nadal beat Berrettini 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 55 minutes on Friday to secure his chance to win his second Open d Australia in their sixth final.

Nadal, Djokovic and Federer have the most Grand Slam tournament wins with 20 each. The Spanish star can move up to 21 with a win over Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday’s final.

Berrettini, seeded seventh, struggled to start at Rod Laver Arena. His serve was broken on the first attempt in the opening set before Nadal served the set.

The 25-year-old Italian fought hard to recover. He lost his first two service games in the second set as his 35-year-old opponent took a 4-0 lead.

Nadal comfortably served the second set to establish a stranglehold on the match. Berrettini seemed to have no answer.

Berrettini managed to hold serve in his first service game of the third set and, after enduring a few more games with his own racquet, broke Nadal in the eighth game before serving.

It looked like Berrettini was gaining momentum throughout the fourth set, but Nadal held on to take a break in the eighth game and then serve out the match in the next game.
