Aurora gas station sells $1 million-winning Lottery ticket – NBC Chicago

An Illinois woman is a million dollars richer and the timing couldn’t have been better.

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased the winning ticket at a Thorntons gas station in suburban Aurora earlier this year. It just so happens that the award comes just after his retirement.

“I’m in my sixties,” she said. “This victory comes at a good time. I just retired last year, and this will make my retirement even more comfortable.

A series of fascinating events led her to decide to buy the ticket.

“I usually stick to what I know, like $5 to $10 instant tickets,” she said. “But when one of my $10 scratch tickets won $100, I decided to try this new $50 scratch ticket. I couldn’t believe I won $1 million. I had to scan the ticket twice to make sure.

This scratch-off game, called “$10 Million,” is the first to be offered for $50 in Illinois. The game launched on December 23, and this week’s winner is the fifth to win a $1 million prize.

There are a total of 15 $1 million prizes associated with the game, with three $10 million grand prizes up for grabs.

According to the Illinois Lottery, the Thorntons who sold the ticket, located at 2800 Ogden Avenue, will receive a $10,000 bonus.
