Residents of the bay region will move from the improvement of the winter sun to caliber by one of the most powerful storms of the winter season this week, the last of a series of rain that fell mostly uninterrupted since the beginning of the month.
“It seems that we could take rain Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Dalton Behringer. “He is a precursor. The big show begins Thursday.
The “big show” is an atmospheric river type system which will throw a torrent of rain which should recall one of the late storms that have saturated the region. It will also increase temperatures that were again free of charge early on Monday.
The previous one is a small low -level high pressure system which has humidity, not much energy and that will drop a small amount of rain like an aperitif, said Behringer.
Assembly, and the higher elevations in the region are likely to see 4 to 6 inches of rain, while lower altitudes should see from 2 to 3½ inches, depending on the meteorological service. The rain should fall at least until Saturday.
“It will be one of the biggest events we will see,” said Behringer.
The region has still not dried up a series of storms that crossed last week and created flood problems. The last rain fell on Thursday, but the temperatures that did not escape the 1950s and hovered in the 1930s the night did not do much to dry the saturated vegetation, according to the meteorological service.
These temperatures once again lead to a gel warning and a freeze on Monday morning, the fourth consecutive morning with one. They are probably again Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the weather service.
“It can warm up in one degree or two next two mornings,” said Behringer. “But Thursday morning, it will be significantly hotter.”
According to Behringer, it will also be considerably more contributed. The gusts of wind should resume along the coast with the arrival of the Thursday storm and should blow between 40 and 45 mi / h in higher altitudes.
The meteorological service said that it was uncertain how the factors contributing to the Thursday storm will have an impact on Sierra Nevada, although they are already predicting burst and difficult trips. The weather service said it would have a better idea of falling snow levels as the storm is getting closer to the earth.
The stretch of heavy rain follows a period of almost a month in January which had no measurable rain for the areas of the bay region outside the northern bay.
