Both parents were charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child after a search of their home by police.
“(Her boyfriend) stated that during the week of December 10, 2023, he witnessed, during video chat, on different occasions, how his father yelled at him and physically assaulted him, specifically suffocating him. Another incident involved Marty allegedly punching his daughter repeatedly in the legs, causing bruising.
On Jan. 7, an incident was recorded between the 16-year-old girl asking her mother to get off her neck and claiming her mother hit her in the mouth, according to the affidavit.

The teenager said that on one occasion her boyfriend had food delivered to her home and when La’Quetta found out, she threw the food away, dragged her daughter by the hair and then had been beaten with a belt, leaving marks on her shoulders.
During one incident, La’Quetta allegedly punched his daughter multiple times in the chest, leaving her with bruises.
The accusations were sparked when the mayor’s daughter told a school staff member about the alleged abuse.
In January, Atlantic City High School students received mental health training and were asked to circle the faces on a ticket to indicate whether they were happy, neutral or sad.
According to the affidavit, Small’s daughter wrote the word “abuse” on the back of a neutral ticket and asked to speak to a counselor.
She later told a mental health coach that she had been knocked out with a broom and described her father as a “big guy,” according to the complaint. She added that she had already spoken to Principal Days-Chapman about it.

The mayor refused to resign after he and his wife were indicted and even posted photos on social media with the captions “#Unbothered” and “two sides” after news of the scandal broke.
