The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed on Wednesday that “half of the people” at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s US event “didn’t even bother to stand up” during the national anthem.

Sharing a video of the event on Twitter, BJP’s Shehzad Poonnawalla tweeted: “Shocking, shameful. Received this video from media regarding Rahul Gandhi’s program. During the national anthem, half of the people Rahul addressed later didn’t even bother to stand up. Later they paused the national anthem in the middle and said it was just “Mic Check”. It is incumbent on Rahul Gandhi’s organizing team to clarify if and why this disrespect was committed? Which audiences disrespect the national anthem? No Indian would… Is Anthem used for Rahul’s mic check? Clarity would be appreciated”

Earlier, BJP’s Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale poked around at Rahul Gandhi’s event in the US and shared a video claiming an ’empty room is waiting’ for the Congress leader.

“Empty room expected for @RahulGandhi in the Bay Area, USA,” he tweeted alongside a video of the event.

Addressing a gathering of the Indian diaspora in San Francisco, Rahul Gandhi blasted the ruling BJP government and said it was “threatening” the people and “abusing” the country’s agencies.

Speaking at an event in Santa Clara, California on Tuesday, Gandhi said the BJP and RSS control all instruments of politics in India. He said that before he started his “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, he realized that the normal tools that were historically used in politics were no longer working. “The BJP threatens people and abuses government agencies. The Bharat Jodo Yatra started because all the instruments we needed to communicate with people were controlled by the BJP-RSS,” he said.

“We also found that in a way it had become quite difficult to act politically. And that’s why we decided to walk from the southern tip of India to Srinagar,” he said.

Gandhi said that the yatra carried the spirit of affection, respect and humility. “If one studies history, one can see that all the spiritual leaders including Guru Nanak Dev ji, Guru Basavanna ji, Narayana Guru ji united the nation in the same way,” he said .

Gandhi said India is not what is shown in the media which likes to promote a political narrative that is removed from reality, saying there is a “huge distortion”.

“It was very clear to me in the Yatra that it is in the interests of the media to project these things, it helps the BJP. So don’t think everything you see in the media is the truth,” he said. he declared.
