At least three injured in shooting at Oklahoma State University

At least three people, including at least one student, were injured in a shooting on the main campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater early Sunday morning, according to police.

The University Police Department responded to Carreker East, a three-story residence hall on campus, around 3:40 a.m. after victims arriving off campus reported the incident.

All victims are being treated at local hospitals in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

“Based on the investigation thus far, it appears there was a large off-campus party at the Payne County Expo Center,” police said in the update. “When this party ended around 2:30 a.m., a group of individuals came to campus to have an after party.”

The shots were fired outside Carreker East following “a disagreement between individuals,” police said. Officers from the University Police Department and the Stillwater Police Department arrived “within minutes” at the residence and secured the scene.

“The suspect is no longer on campus,” police said. “When the event occurred, all parties left campus.”

While police said there is no ongoing threat on campus as this was an isolated incident, they are asking anyone who does not live in Carreker East to avoid the area and anyone with information about the incident to contact us.

The University Police Department is investigating the incident with assistance from the Stillwater Police Department and the Payne County Sheriff’s Office, police said. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in processing evidence collected at the scene.

It is the latest incident in a wave of gun violence at universities and schools over the past week.

In Mississippi, a total of 10 people were killed at Leland, Heidelberg, Alcorn State University and Jackson State University as schools celebrated their homecoming.

On October 4, South Carolina State University was shut down after two unrelated shootings on campus left one person dead and two injured.
