At least 5 dead in Colorado Springs nightclub shooting

At least five people were killed and 18 injured Saturday night in a shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, police said early Sunday morning.
Colorado Springs Police Department public information officer Lt. Pamela Castro told a news conference outside the nightclub, Club Q, that the investigation was just beginning. and that the number of casualties was subject to change. She added that the victims were taken to several hospitals in the area.
After police received an initial call of an active shooting at 11:57 p.m., Lt. Castro said, officers entered the club and arrested an individual they believed to be a suspect. The suspect was also injured and was being treated at a hospital, Lt. Castro said.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Club Q said it was “devastated by the senseless attack on our community.”
The club added: “We thank the quick reactions of the heroic customers who subdued the shooter and put an end to this heinous attack.”
The shooting at Club Q adds to a series of attacks targeting LGBTQ venues across the United States. In 2016, a gunman killed 49 people and injured 53 at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, after pledging allegiance to the Islamic State terror group.
This is a developing story that will be updated.
