At least 10 Long Island school districts are affected by a PowerSchool data breach.
News 12 confirmed that the Jericho, Hicksville, Glen Cove, West Hempstead, Lynbrook, Middle Country, Massapequa, Smithtown Central, Nassau BOCES and Uniondale school districts were affected by the data breach.
PowerSchool says its system used by parents, students and teachers to track grades and attendance was hacked in December.
It’s unclear how many schools in total on Long Island were affected by the data breach.
News 12 asked PowerSchool, and a company spokesperson said they do not disclose which districts are affected.
Schools that confirm using PowerSchool have sent notices regarding the breach. Smithtown Central administrators say they believe this issue was limited in scope and has been contained, and many schools have reset passwords for PowerSchool.
PowerSchool says it is working to determine who the data may have been stolen from. Other schools on Long Island may be affected.
