Aston Villa fan aims Chelsea dig at talkSPORT host who laughed at ‘sleeping giant’ claim

Chelsea fan Jason Cundy has been subjected to a savage dig after mocking suggestions Aston Villa were a ‘woken sleeping giant’.

Villa’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Lille on Thursday booked their place in the Europa Conference league semi-finals.

Emery’s men are the last Premier League representatives in Europe this season and Greek side Olympiacos stand in the way of a first European final since 1982.

Jubilant Aston Villa fan Luke spoke to Cundy and Jamie O’Hara on Thursday evening and kicked off his appeal with a well-timed monologue in tribute to his team.

“The sleeping giant has awakened the pride of the Midlands, the only English team that still represents England on European territory,” he said. “The European Cup winners are back and coming back to conquer. In Unai, we trust. Come on Villa boys.

But Chelsea fan Cundy has yet to shy away from Villa’s revival and has been quick to dismiss suggestions the Midlands club are a sleeping giant.

“Luke, you opened your eyes, you’re having a big yawn and a big stretch right now and you’re not quite out of bed yet,” Cundy replied.

Luke responded to the talkSPORT host, saying: “Are you a bit jealous of the Villa boys?”

Cundy replied, “You say you’re sleeping giants, but sleeping giants get out of bed and go for a 15-mile run every morning. Villa doesn’t do that yet, does he?

Luke saved the best for last, as he made a quick-witted dig at Cundy and his beloved Blues.

“How long has Chelsea been in bed?” They’ve been in bed for about three years, right? Luke said, to which Cundy responded. “You have all been in the land of sleep for 40 years, calm down.”

It was good-natured fun between the two clubs, with both clubs recording key wins over the past week.

Aston Villa’s 2-0 win at Arsenal last weekend keeps them in pole position for the fourth and final Champions League spot ahead of next season’s revamped competition.

Villa hold a three-point advantage over Tottenham with five games remaining and although Ange Postecoglou’s side have a game in hand, their showdown includes daunting clashes with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have the chance to book their place in the FA Cup final if they beat Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday.

The Blues are unbeaten in the last eight matches in all competitions and are building momentum ahead of a final attempt to qualify for Europe.
