As we enter the summer party season, seven ways to avoid the nightmare of wearing what she wears

If you’re shopping the same fashion favorites as your friends and you’ll all be attending the same weddings, christenings and big birthday parties this summer, we all know what’s coming.

It’s bad enough that you might end up walking around an elegant country lawn in exactly the same attire as another guest. Much worse could be the arguments between some of your less nice friends about who wore it better.

If the mere possibility of this happening makes you want to turn down all invitations – and having a sense of humor about it is out of the question – then what you need is to some mode damage limitation.

So here are the eight most effective ways to avoid wearing what she’s wearing – and if all else fails, the tips and tricks to make sure you’re the one who comes out on top!

Wear the unexpected

Wearing white to a wedding is one way to almost guarantee that you won’t match any other guests. Who else would be brave enough? Opt for softer off-white, ecru, latte or caramel tones and you might just be sailing on the right side of acceptable.

Likewise, a neat tuxedo jacket in a jewel color for a formal dinner greatly decreases your chances of doubling up with another female guest.

Do it this way last season

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a new dress for your big summer party. In fact, it might be time to pull something considerably older from the back of the wardrobe – a favorite that may be worth another release.

Or to avoid a fashion double dip altogether, check out a vintage fashion website. The Collectibles has an exceptional selection of Chanel, Miu Miu, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli that you can be sure no one else will wear – even though they might wish they were. A little tighter budget? Visit your local thrift store or Vinted.

Be stylish, not fashionable

This huge bow on your shoulder; the floral bodice at the neck or the flowing flower appliques on each arm of your jacket (see Nadine Merabi) are all joyful statements. The problem is, you won’t be the only one who thinks so.

If these can be easily removed (if you need to), you may think it’s worth the risk. Otherwise, show off your style with accessories instead. You’ll get way more fashion out of this Rixo bag than ever out of this feathered dress.

Separations will save you

You might only be half wrong if someone else has copied your look.

If you’re both wearing a pink pantsuit, simply taking off your jacket could save the day, especially if you haven’t made an obvious choice with what you’re wearing underneath (that would be the t- white shirt or matching suit). vest).

Opt for a sleeveless striped shirt in a contrasting color or Aspiga’s Ilana Frill organic cotton gauze top which can be worn off the shoulder or off the shoulder. The High Street is full of raised dividers.

If it’s Insta famous, avoid it!

Remember that year the Zara polka dot dress was so ubiquitous that it spawned its own Instagram account? It was a lesson in avoiding the obvious and it’s happening again.

You’ll probably want to deviate from M&S’s dress of the season: a square-neck midi dress in white cotton, 45 of which were sold every hour on the Saturday of its launch. Great for a backyard barbecue, but too risky for serious summer parties.

Opt for more classic pieces – a backless dress with a ruffled skirt (like Wyse London’s Bethany dress at Midnight) or a fit and flare dress or flattering shirt (Lexy London has plenty) – styles that won’t necessarily the business of the fashion public. turned on, but they can still be worn more than six weeks after purchase.

Buy the block color (but not yellow)

Fashion is fickle. Yellow was the most popular color at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show and this shade will inevitably seep into wardrobes.

Avoid them and opt for other block colors. All you have to do is turn the fashion barometer back to 2022 to see that raspberry, cerulean blue and tangerine orange were on the runways and are just as beautiful today as they were then.

Remember that a statement print will be much harder to hide if there are two of you wearing it. With a base of one main color, your outfit can be designed to look completely different. For example, if you have the Romina embroidered white long dress from Sezane, remove the plain belt that accompanies it and add something of your choice, colorful and more structured.

Grab neutral wide-leg pants and a linen blazer or suit and dress it up with transformative pieces like Sezane’s High Clarisse bow mules in orange satin.

These accessories will distract your doppelganger’s gaze, leaving you victorious in the style stakes.

And if all else fails, put your party coat back on…

If you have ignored all the advice given here and now find yourself in the intolerable position of being overdressed by someone who has the exact same look you are wearing, there is only one thing to do : hide your outfit and pretend. none of this happens.

A lightweight evening coat will do this for you instantly. It adds a different layer without overwhelming you with fabric or making you too hot. Problem beautifully solved.
