“As Quattrocchi sues Bofors”: Himanta Sarma Jabs Congress

New Delhi:

A day after a Jharkhand Congressman alleged that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was trying to overthrow the state government, the BJP hit back calling the allegations ‘baseless’ .

Jharkhand’s Bermo Congress MP Kumar Jaimangal has filed a police complaint against the three Congress MPs arrested in the Howrah of West Bengal with a huge sum of money for allegedly luring other MPs by offering 10 crores of rupees each and a ministerial seat if the BJP forms the government in the state.

He alleged that the trio called him in Kolkata to take him to Guwahati and meet the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati with them where he was promised a ministerial place and crores worth monetary after overthrowing the JMM-Congress government in the tribal-dominated state.

Assam’s chief minister “does so with the blessing of the best shots of the Delhi-headquartered BJP political party”, his letter says.

Mr. Sarma responded by saying that the FIR filed by Mr. Jaimangal is akin to Congress asking Ottavio Quattrocchi to file a lawsuit against Bofors. Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi was at the center of the multi-million dollar Bofors scam that scalded the political careers of many Indian leaders, including its youngest prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

“Fake FIR in #Jharkhand. So called FIR looks like @INCIndia asking Ottavio Quattrocchi to file a complaint against Bofors,” Mr Sarma said.

Assam Chief Minister retweeted a tweet by Assam Government Spokesperson Pijush Hazarika who posted pictures of Jharkhand Congress MP, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi’s meeting with the Chief Minister of Assam also present. Mr Hazarika claimed that the Chief Minister took the MP to meet Mr Joshi five days before the FIR to help him with a union-related matter. The deputy is also the national secretary of the union wing of the big old party.

“Even the highest figures in Congress keep in touch with me. We don’t talk politics but being in a party for over 22 years, we keep in touch. I don’t know why the FIR was filed on this” , Chief Minister Sarma said. had said earlier about Kumar Jaimangal Singh’s allegations.

The three Jharkhand Congress MPs – Irfan Ansari of Jamtara, Rajesh Kachhap of Khijri and Naman Bixal Kongari of Kolebir – were arrested and suspended from the party.

Relatives of MP Irfan Ansari have refuted claims that the BJP is trying to destabilize the JMM-Congress coalition government in Jharkhand, saying “the government cannot be overthrown with a meager sum of Rs 40-50 lakh”.
