New Delhi: Amid rising tensions around US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan earlier in the day, several Chinese warplanes flew dangerously close to the centerline of the sensitive Taiwan Strait on Tuesday morning.

According to a report in Reutersa source revealed that several Chinese warships have remained near the unofficial demarcation line between China and Taiwan since Monday and that the latter had dispatched a plane to monitor the situation.

Although the United States does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, Pelosi would be the highest-ranking American lawmaker to visit the self-governing democratic island since 1997.

Meanwhile Reuters’ A source said Chinese warships and planes were seen near the center line, which the person said is provocative given that neither side normally crosses the center line.

The person even claimed that the Chinese planes repeated tactical moves where they briefly touched the center line and returned across the strait on Tuesday morning, while Taiwanese planes stood by.

According to a report by CNBCChina has repeatedly warned against Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, while the United States said Monday it would not be intimidated by China’s “saber rattling.”

The report further adds that Taiwan’s Defense Ministry, in a statement, said it had full knowledge of military activities near Taiwan and would appropriately dispatch forces in response to “enemy threats”. .

China considers visits by US officials to Taiwan, which it considers part of its own, an encouraging signal for the island’s pro-independence camp. Although Washington does not have formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan, it is required by US law to provide the island nation with the means to defend itself.
