San Jose – San Jose Sharks can play a spoiler in the past two weeks and more from the regular season with a handful of their remaining opponents in the running for a place in playoffs or a jockey for a better position.
This certainly did not happen on Saturday, while the desperate rangers of New York taught the remarkably young program of the Sharks a hard lesson.
The Sharks granted two goals to Artemi Panarin in the first period and another to Adam Fox in the second and never recovered in a defeat of 6-1 against the rangers before a closed closed crowds announced from 17,435 to SAP Center.
Cam Lund, playing in his second NHL match, provided San Jose’s only highlight when he scored his first NHL goal with 2:15 to do in the third period to help Sharks avoid laundry.
Goalkeeper Alexandar Georgiev stopped only 19 of the first 24 shots he faced, with Fox and ex-Shark Jonny Brodzinski marking on consecutive fire in the third period to guarantee the victory of the Rangers.
But Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky was not going to pin the result of his goalkeeper on Saturday, while the Sharks decided to take a step back decided on the way they played in Boston’s Bruins last week and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday.
“I would say that our young players had young games tonight,” said Warsofsky about Sharks, who dressed eight recruits against the Rangers.
The rings management problems tormented the Sharks, who gave Panarin too much time and space on his first two goals, who appeared at 1:54 and provided Rangers with a 2-0 lead.
Above all, however, the pace and competition of sharks displayed during their 6-5 victory against Toronto on Thursday were absent because they ended their eight games with a 3-5-0 file.
“We have just moved away from our way of playing,” said Sharks defender Mario Ferraro. “It is a very beautiful line for us right now. It is quite obvious of the two games that we played the things we did to succeed, and tonight was simply not one of these nights.
“There was no one who was playing in the right way tonight, so I hope it’s a learned lesson. We played a better hockey, but it’s a team that is trying to do the playoffs right now. I really felt like we have given them two points.”
The Sharks added large bodies to their range on the NHL trade deadline, but they did not play a big Saturday. Not even near.
“We are in size,” said Warsofsky, “but if we don’t use it, what is it for ?. We have to be more physically engaged, that’s for sure.”
“Were not difficult enough, were not in competition strong enough, did not play smart enough,” said Ferraro. “The neutral zone game, the area of zone O, the blind games hurt us tonight.”
The Sharks were eliminated for a long time ago in the playoffs, but they still have the opportunity to spoil the post -season hopes – or to affect the playoffs – of their opposition at the end of the regular season.
But they could not slow down the Rangers, who now have 77 points, two more than the Montreal Canadians and Columbus Blue Jackets. These three teams, and others are the competition for the second and last point of Joker of the Eastern Conference.
Of the 10 remaining games of San Jose, eight are against teams trying to get a place in the playoffs or earn a better position. Three come against Edmonton’s Oilers, who wish to obtain second place in the Pacific division for the advantage of ice ice in the first round.
The Sharks opponent on Sunday, the Kings of Los Angeles, is second in the Pacific.
Two other Sharks games are against the Flames de Calgary, and one more is against the Wild of Minnesota. The two teams are still trying to lock places in the playoffs.
The defeat on Saturday also maintained the Sharks in 32nd place in the general NHL classification. San Jose still has 49 points, two less than Chicago, who has nine games.
Whatever the team completed with the worst NHL record will have 25.5% chance of winning the recovery lottery in May. The team that ends 31st will have 13.5% chance of winning the lottery.
The Sharks finished in the last place last season, won the lottery and selected Macklin Celebrini, now their high -level center, first in the general classification. The best player available in this year’s draft would be widely considered the defender of the Otters Erie Matthew Schaefer.
