Art leaflets should present human creativity: NPR

The spring leaflet for the first fair in the rue d’Oakland shows people who walk on an urban avenue in front of a building twisted with brilliant pink flowers.

But this advertisement for an event celebrating creativity was not created by an artist. It was generated by AI.

“Shame on you,” said an Instagram user. “You exist because of the artists and yet you insist on stealing and submitting them …”

The first Friday of Oakland was started by local art galleries in 2006 as a kind of Friday evening, Art Gallery Crawl. The organizers say that it now draws around 30,000 people each month.

This week, the organizers defended their use of an image of AI to promote the festival as everything they could afford as a local non -profit organization that organizes a free event.

“(W) e does our best to balance creativity with the resources we have,” they posted on Instagram. “Unfortunately, we do not currently have the budget to hire artists to create conceptions for us … It was not a design purely generated by AI,” they added. “(W) EA made significant changes and adjustments …”

I think that the first leaflet of the first Friday of Oakland looks … well. But knowing that it was produced by artificial intelligence does not make you consider what an artist saw with their eyes and hoped to express.

AI is ready to change the world and modify the areas of medicine, manufacturing, accounting, coding and yes, writing and even dissemination.

But people make art to arouse imagination and feeling, in the artist and the public.

Riva Lehrer, the artist and writer who also teaches the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, said to us: “We, in the arts, must understand the machinery of our imagination in order to become deeper artists. AI is like letting our minds be kidnapped and destroyed. It is a vampire mirror, capture your soul and put it in a cage.”

Pablo Picasso, by the way, has made paintings and lithographs to promote art fairs. Perhaps the people of the first on Fridays of Oakland could have taken one and just make some “important adjustments”.
