Arsenal vs Luton Town predictions

Arsenal were the happier of the two teams after a 0-0 draw against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Many believed that Arsenal needed to win this game to take control of the Premier League title race. The logic was understandable. The Gunners have a trickier run-in than City, so opening up a bigger lead over the champions would have been helpful.

Yet it is worth remembering that no visiting team has won at the Etihad Stadium since before the 2022 World Cup. Furthermore, City had scored in 47 consecutive league matches in front of their own fans. It is very difficult for opposing teams to achieve positive results on their home field.

With that in mind, a 0-0 draw was a decent result for Arsenal. They defended smartly and solidly, in stark contrast to their performance in a 4-1 defeat at the Etihad last season.

The central defender duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes was – not for the first time this season – exceptional, but Arsenal’s courage and determination were a success for the collective.

Yet this performance at the Etihad will be worthless if Arsenal don’t follow up with back-to-back wins against Luton Town and Brighton & Hove Albion in the coming days.

This second match seems the more difficult of the two, with Arsenal having to travel to the Amex Stadium. By then, Arteta’s side should add three more points to their tally against the Hatters.

The goalless stalemate against City was the first time in 2024 that Arsenal had failed to win a Premier League match. They have been sensational since the start of the year. It’s easy to forget that their title chances were largely dismissed after two losses over the holiday period.

There is still a huge amount of work to be done, however, and no one at Arsenal should get carried away after City’s neutralization.

Arsenal vs Luton Town predictions

Arsenal are set to return to winning ways when Luton Town travel to the Emirates Stadium in midweek.

Arsenal will win to nil – Evens (Paddy Power)

Luton Town got off to a fantastic start to the weekend, leading 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur inside three minutes.

But Rob Edwards’ team failed to hold on. Spurs equalized through an Issa Kaboré own goal early in the second half, before Son Heung-min scored the winner late in the match.

Remarkably, Luton have scored in 18 successive Premier League matches. This is the longest such streak in the top flight.

Keeping a clean sheet will therefore not be easy, even for Arsenal, who have the best defensive record in the division. Luton have a well-honed style and their direct approach has caused many teams problems.

But as Arsenal demonstrated this weekend, it is difficult to create chances against them. The Gunners have kept 12 clean sheets in the league, which is comfortably the best record at the moment.

By dominating possession and camping out in Luton’s half, Arsenal will keep the visitors away from their own goal. This bodes well for their chances of shutting out Edwards’ men.

Arsenal -2 handicap – Evens (Paddy Power)

Arsenal showed a different side in their match against Manchester City compared to what we saw in the rest of 2024.

The Gunners have adopted an attacking style this calendar year, blowing away many teams. They scored six goals against West Ham United and Sheffield United, five against Crystal Palace and Burnley, four against Newcastle United and three against Liverpool.

Their eight league wins since January 1 have ended by an average margin of 3.63 goals. A repeat here would make this bet a success.

Luton were competitive for much of the campaign. Only once since August have they lost a match by three clear goals.

It was a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield and this trip to the Emirates Stadium will be just as difficult. Arsenal can get the job done without much discomfort.

Kai Havertz will score anytime – Evens (Paddy Power)

Kai Havertz has had a difficult start to his career at Arsenal. He has long been an enigma as a player, and many Gunners fans couldn’t understand why the club spent £65 million to bring him from Chelsea last summer.

But Havertz has made much more of an impact over the past couple of months, whether playing up front or as a No.8. With Gabriel Martinelli injured, the Germany international should continue in the middle here.

Havertz didn’t have many chances this weekend, but that was because of Arsenal’s game plan.

He has still scored four goals in his last five league outings, while he also scored for Germany in a 2-0 win over France last month.

Against a Luton backline struggling to keep clean sheets, Havertz can make his mark.
