Arsenal, Man City European giants interested in summer transfer for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly a summer target for Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City.

The Brazilian midfielder is playing his third season with the Magpies since his announced £40million move to Lyon in January 2022.

Guimaraes played a key role in their qualification for the Champions League last season and made 31 Premier League starts during this campaign.

However, Newcastle look set to fight to keep the 26-year-old this summer amid interest from other top European sides.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Arsenal and City are considering a move for Guimaraes, who is understood to be aware of their admiration.

This would see them battling for another top midfielder from a club outside the ‘top six’ following their pursuit of West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Arsenal swooped in by signing him in a £105million deal, but they and City could face competition elsewhere for Guimaraes.

talkSPORT understands Arsenal and City are two of a number of clubs interested in the Brazil international, including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, nothing has been said about Guimaraes pursuing a club.

His contract at Newcastle, which currently runs until 2028, reportedly carries a £100 million release clause.

Such a fee is the basic fee Arsenal paid for Rice last summer and would be the Magpies’ most expensive sale ever, dwarfing Andy Carroll’s £35 million move to Liverpool in 2011.

Guimaraes is not the only Newcastle player to become a target for the Gunners as Alexander Isak has also been linked.

talkSPORT understands Eddie Howe’s side are keen to renegotiate his contract at St. James’ Park to help divert interest.

A clause in his current contract means he could lose up to 20 per cent of his salary if Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League.

They currently sit 6th in the Premier League and 16 points off the top four, but even with two games in hand it could be too late for them.

So this could be a huge summer of change for Newcastle as they face fighting to retain key stars for next season.
