Arsenal issue update on Frida Maanum after collapse against Chelsea

Arsenal have released a positive update on Frida Maanum’s health following her collapse against Chelsea last week.

There was a terrifying moment during Sunday’s Women’s Continental League Cup final between Chelsea and Arsenal when Maanum collapsed on the pitch at Molineux.

Paramedics were rushed to the pitch and the Arsenal ace required oxygen, before eventually being stretchered off.

The Gunners have since released an update on his status following extensive testing and support from the medical team.

Two renowned cardiologists reviewed the results and concluded that no obvious cardiac cause had been found during investigations so far.

Maanum was fitted with a monitoring device to record her heart function, but she has not yet been able to return to normal training.

A statement said: “Following the incident during Sunday’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup final, which resulted in Maanum being replaced at the end of normal time, she underwent extensive testing and the support from our Arsenal medical team.

“The test results have been reviewed by two renowned cardiologists and no obvious cardiac cause has been found so far from these extensive investigations.”

After a week, she will be allowed to return before a decision is made on whether or not she can play again this season.

The 24-year-old also pulled out of international duty with Norway, who will face Finland and the Netherlands in their European Championship qualifiers.

Maanum had played almost the full 90 minutes against Chelsea when she collapsed on the pitch, but managed to return to her teammates after the match.

Arsenal then beat the Blues 1-0 to win the cup final and deny Chelsea boss Emma Hayes a farewell quadruple.

There was also a moment of madness at the final whistle when Hayes pushed Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall when they were supposed to shake hands.

In her post-match press conference, she blamed her reaction to Eidevall on “male aggression”.

“I’m not against male aggression on the touchline. He got a yellow card and he probably should have been sent off,” she said.
