Arsenal fans rage as Nicolas Jackson avoids red card for ‘disgusting’ challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson avoided an early red card for a challenge on Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Blues striker was lucky not to receive his marching orders in the ninth minute at the Emirates Stadium after Tomiyasu was caught on his ankle.

Tomiyasu writhing in agony following a horror tackle from Jackson

Tomiyasu immediately went to the turn, with the Gunners awarded a free-kick, but incredibly, Jackson didn’t even receive a yellow card.

VAR briefly reviewed the incident, but they failed to rule it out as dangerous play, and former England international Danny Mills was shocked by the decision.

Speaking on talkSPORT commentary, he said: “I’d like to see the VAR on that because it’s a red card.”

It was an opinion shared by many Arsenal fans, who were quick to express their anger on social media.

An X user sent a message: “This is a disgusting tackle from Jackson. This should be disabled.”

Another posted: “This should be a red card for Nicolas Jackson. This is a terrible challenge for Takehiro Tomiyasu.”

A third added: “I don’t know how Nicolas Jackson is still on the pitch. It’s a terrible challenge.”

This fan then commented: “How is Nicolas Jackson still on the field after making that horror tackle on Tomiyasu?”

Tomiyasu immediately felt the pain after being pinned high on the ankle.

Meanwhile, another simply said: “The more I see of Jackson’s tackle the more it’s a red card. Shocking.”

Chelsea’s night would have gone from bad to worse if Jackson had taken an early bath.

The Blues were dealt a major blow ahead of the match with Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto ruled out.

And then Leandro Trossard added to their misery by breaking the deadlock just five minutes into the London derby.
