Arsenal consider ex-Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko as striker option as they put him up for sale

Benjamin Sesko has emerged as a striker option for Arsenal with Eddie Nketiah facing an uncertain future, according to talkSPORT.

The Gunners are believed to have made bringing in a new centre-forward a top priority this summer.

Newcastle star Alexander Isak has been linked, alongside Sporting Lisbon’s Victor Gyokeres and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

But RB Leipzig starlet Sesko – a long-time Manchester United target – is also on the north London giants’ radar.

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2022, but instead joined Leipzig, where he impressed in Germany.

Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, was at the Theater of Dreams to see Arsenal beat United 1-0 on Sunday, and he was also at the Emirates Stadium to watch the 5-0 demolition of Chelsea last month.

The youngster’s potential arrival at Arsenal could see Hale End graduate Nketiah leave, with the 24-year-old made available for purchase after falling down the pecking order.

Crystal Palace are known to be admirers of the one-cap England international after inquiring about his services ahead of the winter transfer window.

Sesko, who spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Red Bull Salzburg, has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season – including 13 in the Bundesliga.

Since January 27, the Slovenia international has scored either a league goal or an assist in every match he has started, with the striker finding the back of the net in each of his last six outings.

Sesko has been seen as an attractive option by potential suitors, with his release clause rising to £42.8m.

But due to his good form, Sky Germany claimed earlier this month that his clause had ballooned, which could now reach up to £64m.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly looking for a physical striker, having deployed Kai Havertz at centre-forward after using him in a box-to-box midfielder role during the first half of the season.

And Sesko fits the bill as he stands at 6ft 5in, with the youngster capable of adding a different dimension to Arsenal’s front line.
