Arsenal asked to ‘blow the entire transfer budget’ on Newcastle duo Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes
Arsenal are set to spend this summer’s transfer budget on Newcastle stars Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes.
That’s according to talkSPORT’s Darren Bent, with Andy Goldstein also saying the Gunners would have the “best possible chance” of winning the Champions League with them.
talkSPORT understands Arsenal are among a host of clubs keen to sign Isak from Newcastle, who are keen to renegotiate his contract to fend off interest.
It has also been suggested that Mikel Arteta’s side are confident they can also sign Guimaraes, with both players vital to the Magpies.
Arsenal already have a team in contention for the Premier League title and Bent believes his summer transfer budget should be spent on the two Newcastle stars.
“You know what, I would spend the whole transfer budget on the two of them. I have £150m to spend…” he said on Drive.
Bent was then asked where Guimaraes would play in the Arsenal side and he replied: “Bruno, (Declan) Rice, (Martin) Odegaard (in midfield).”
Host Goldstein then revealed what the Gunners could achieve if they manage to sign both targets this summer, saying: “If you have those two, that’s a team and a half.
“Do you know what, I would go as far as to say that if you get two, keep everyone else and sort out your left-back situation, you will have, I think, your best possible chance of winning the Champions League the next season.
Arsenal returned to the Champions League this season after six years away from the competition.
The Gunners finished top of their group and beat Porto in the round of 16, but lost 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
Isak and Guimaraes would certainly increase their chances, with both players being among the best in their respective positions.
The former has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season, including 19 in the Premier League, and the latter is a consistent midfielder for Newcastle.
Given their contributions, both could prove to be expensive signings if they move from Tyneside to north London.
Until the summer, Arsenal still have the chance to win their first league title in 20 years as they sit at the top of the table.
They are one point ahead of Manchester City with three games remaining, but the reigning champions have a game in hand and will overtake them if they win it.
