Arrest made in Oceanside hit-and-run crash that claims postal carrier’s life

A 26-year-old Riverside man was arrested Friday morning in connection with a March hit-and-run crash that left a cyclist dead, Oceanside police said.

The 11:35 p.m. collision was reported near the intersection of State Highway 76 and Singh Way on March 17, police said. The victim, mother of two and postman Tracey Gross, died from her injuries the following day.

The driver involved fled. Police initially suspected the motorist lived locally, but the investigation led officers to Corona, where Christian Howard was arrested at his workplace around 9 a.m.

Howard was booked into the Vista Jail and faces charges including vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death.
