Around 70% of Japanese companies will implement pay scale increases in fiscal 2024.

Information via Japan Times:

  • the proportion of companies planning to increase their salary scales stands at 70.7%, up 6.3 percentage points from the previous year
  • Companies in which salary increases and regular increases total 5% or more amount to 36.5%, almost double from the previous year.

Such a result would somewhat encourage the Bank of Japan. However:

  • 50.2% of small and medium-sized businesses said they had not been able to pass on rising labor costs in the prices of their products and services.

The survey was conducted from March to this month and received responses from around 1,100 companies across Japan.
