Liverpool will face an £8.59million bill for dealing with Dutch Cup winners Feyenoord if they decide to step up their efforts to sign manager Arne Slot.

The 45-year-old Dutchman is now a strong contender for the soon-to-be vacant Anfield job when Jurgen Klopp leaves this summer.

Feyenoord would be happy to allow a departure but would need €10 million to do so.

Slot won the Dutch Cup this weekend with a 1-0 final win over NEC Breda and also led the Rotterdam side to a league title in 2022-23, their second league triumph since the beginning of the century.

Sources claim the Dutch club are growing increasingly frustrated with Slot’s agent Rafaela Pimenta constantly offering him to other clubs. The manager reportedly has significant power over transfers at Feyenoord and the club have been prepared to give him what he demands.

Slot is likely to bring his right-hand man Sipke Hulshoff to his next club, with Liverpool in need of a massive rebuild of the coaching department after a number of high-profile members of Klopp’s trusted squad moved on to follow him out of the exit door.

No formal or direct discussions have yet taken place between Liverpool and Slot or Feyenoord, and the Dutch club were only informed earlier this week of the growing interest in their manager.

Klopp announced at the end of January that he would be leaving the club after almost nine years at the helm and he has just five matches remaining on Merseyside, including tomorrow’s trip through Stanley Park to Everton and Goodison Park.
