Arne Slot spoke for the first time since Trent Alexander-Arnold announced that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season.
Monday morning, Alexander -Arnold confirmed his decision to leave the Reds – after spending 20 years at the club – free transfer at the end of the season.
The English international should make a passage to the Spanish giants of Real Madrid, with whom he was permanently linked to the middle of his contractual disputes.
Mail Sport was the first English newspaper to note that Madrid was confident to secure Alexander -Arnold in December – and little changed along the way.
And, speaking at his pre-match press conference before Liverpool’s shock with Arsenal on Sunday, Slot was questioned about the defender’s departure.
“I think that like all those who love Liverpool and who is a fan of Liverpool, we are disappointed for him to go, because not only a good human being leaves the club, but a very very good full back leaves us too,” he said.
Arne Slot broke her silence on the release of Liverpool by Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer
“But I also worked in clubs like Az Alkmaar and Feyenoord where each multiple season of very good players has left the club, so I am a little more used to the players who leave the club perhaps.
“And by the way, the experience I have – and this club too – that if a very good player leaves, the next very good player will intervene and that’s probably what will happen now.”
In a declaration on social networks confirming his release, Alexander-Arnold wrote: “After 20 years at the Liverpool Football Club, it is now time for me to confirm that I will leave at the end of the season. It is easily the most difficult decision that I have ever taken with my life.
“I know that many of you have asked me why or been frustrated that I have not yet spoken of it, but it was always my intention to keep my concentration on the best interests of the team, which was to guarantee n ° 20.
“This club has been all my life – my whole world – for 20 years. From the academy so far, the support and love that I have felt from everyone inside and outside the club will remain with me forever. I will be indebted to all of you.
“But, I have never known anything else and this decision is to take up a new challenge, get me out of my comfort zone and push me both professionally and personally.
“I gave my everyone every day that I was in this club, and I hope you feel like you’ve returned during my stay here. From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters – for 20 years.
“I was blessed enough to live my dreams here and I will never hold for the special moments that I was lucky to have lived with you all. My love for this club will never die.
