Ariana Grande opted for Fairycore for her 2024 Met Gala performance

No, she’s not an ethereal woodland fairy who just performed at the 2024 Met Gala, it’s just Ariana Grande, although you’d be forgiven for mistaking her for some kind of magical nymph given her green dress from dream.

The pop star arrived at the Met Gala in style wearing a mother-of-pearl Loewe dress. As she later explained, the dress was a nod to her Wicked character, Glinda, who travels in a bubble. After climbing the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Grande changed into a second dress that she wore for her surprise performance inside the venue.

Grande’s second dress of the evening was truly divine. A floaty green gown by John Galliano for Maison Margiela, the dress featured layers upon layers of sea green sheer fabric, giving it a luscious, hazy look. The long, gloved sleeves featured soft, painterly pops of blue and purple, which blended into shades of green. The overall effect was an artistic, woodsy vision, and there’s nothing more dreamy than that.

The singer took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the breathtaking dress and her performance. “I had the honor and most special moment of being performed at the @metmuseum of @maisonmargiela by the one and only brightest angel of all (John Galliano) (how I cried during our fitting!!! !),” she said in the caption. She added: “Working on this show was an experience I will cherish forever.”

She concluded with a message to Cynthia Erivo, who stars opposite her in the upcoming Wicked adaptation as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. “Last but not least, thank you to the divine and magical @cynthiaerivo for finally joining me and lighting up the museum brighter than any star in the sky ever could,” she wrote. “It was an honor for me to have you and sing with you as always. I love you!”

Grande’s performance included renditions of the singer’s songs “7 Rings,” “Into You” and “We Can’t Be Friends.” Towards the end of the show, she was joined by Erivo and the duo sang a version of “When You Believe”, a duet originally sung by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.

Erivo wore a hot pink dress for her duet with Grande, and the two swapped their characters’ signature colors of pink and green. Grande later posted an image of the couple on her Instagram Stories and famously quoted Wicked line, writing: “Pink goes well with green“.
