Are Red Lobster stores closing in Tampa?
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Some Red Lobster locations in Florida, including several in the Tampa area, are listed as temporarily closed on the company’s website.
In Tampa, locations are located at 2625 East Busch Blvd. and 17021 Palm Pointe Drive are both closed, as is the 10500 E Ulmerton Road location in Largo. Other locations in Florida, including three in Orlando, are also listed as closed on the site.
The Florida-based restaurant chain, which saw its first location open in Lakeland, Florida, in 1968, is experiencing financial difficulties and considering filing for bankruptcy, according to Bloomberg.
NBC News reported that the chain’s former parent company, Thai Union Group, was hit hard in the third quarter of 2023 due to the chain’s $20 “Ultimate Endless Shrimp” promotion. Thai Union Group wrote off its investment in Red Lobster, resulting in a record quarterly loss of $479 million at the end of 2023.
A company spokesperson did not immediately respond to News Channel 8’s request for comment.
