Apple Watch Series 10 could have an ultra-wide display

Here’s some good news for Apple Watch owners who’ve been pining for the Apple Watch Ultra’s display: The Apple Watch Series 10 could have the same screen size as the company’s 49mm outdoor watch. That’s in addition to other possible improvements, like a thinner case and a new chip that could “lay the foundation for some AI improvements in the future,” according to Mark Gurman’s latest article To light up newsletter for Bloomberg.

The display rumor seems to confirm a CAD render from last month that showed a Series 10 watch with a two-inch display. Gurman says—and this render seems to show—that the watch won’t feature any major design changes. If that means no magnetic strap attachments or anything, I’ll put that part of the rumor in the “good” column—like many, I’ve accumulated a number of watch bands over the years, and I’d like to continue using them if I decide to upgrade.

When it comes to new sensors, the picture seems murkier, as Gurman says Apple is struggling with two major health sensor updates it’s planning. The company reportedly hasn’t been able to guarantee the reliability of its blood pressure monitor, and he writes that not being able to use its banned blood oxygen sensor is hampering its efforts to add sleep apnea detection.

Apple is reportedly considering releasing a cheaper version of the Apple Watch SE to match the price of Samsung’s $199 Galaxy Watch FE. Apparently, it could do this by offering a hard plastic case. That could make the watch cheaper, sure, and maybe even lighter. I can think of at least one other Apple product that could benefit from a similar move! (The Vision Pro. I mean the Vision Pro.)

Finally, Gurman says the company plans to release a Watch Ultra 3, but don’t expect any big visual changes. It will, however, feature the new chip that will power the Series 10.
